The brief
Why it needed to exist.
Sixty years of alumni were scattered across email lists and social media. The club wanted one private place to find each other, talk, and turn out for reunions — readable for members of every generation.
The production
What we built.
A private community for a law-school rugby club founded in 1966. Members get Gmail-style threaded discussions, a directory searchable by class year, location, and industry, events with RSVPs and calendar files, photo albums, a jobs board, and news that can be shared publicly.
Private messages are end-to-end encrypted in the browser and delivered in real time. Membership is by request, approved by the club's own administrators.
01Discussions that feel like email
Threaded conversations with categories, quoting, watch and mute, and a rich-text editor — familiar to members who live in their inbox.
02Directory with privacy controls
Find alumni by graduation year, location, or industry; each member decides what the rest of the club can see.
03End-to-end encrypted messages
Encrypted in the browser with standard Web Crypto; keys stay on the member's device.
04Events, albums, jobs
Reunions and matches with RSVP and calendar export, photo albums, a jobs board, and a digest for club-wide updates.
05Approval-based membership
Public pages carry the club's story; members-only spaces sit behind sign-in, approval, and role-based visibility.
06Readable by design
Large type, high contrast, and light and dark themes — the design brief was readability for older alumni.
